Housed in the Department of Educational Foundations and Special Services, the Evaluation and Measurement Program consists of three full-time faculty members and several adjunct faculty members.
This program has been shaped to introduce students to a wide repertoire of inquiry modes. Advanced students examine philosophical underpinnings of current and emerging research approaches and their methodological implications. Emphasis on theory and application prepares students to use a variety of approaches and techniques with a mature understanding of their rationale. This, in turn, allows students to apply their knowledge and skills in a wide variety of disciplines.
The Evaluation and Measurement Program seeks to develop specialists who can apply their knowledge about research and measurement in a variety of settings. Primarily, the program seeks to develop specialists who can teach courses at the college level, provide leadership in the conduct of research studies, and serve as consultants in research methodology and data analysis in education, industry, and government.
Specifically, the Ph.D. program in Evaluation and Measurement seeks to develop professionals who have the theoretical knowledge-base and application skills to:
- Conceptualize, design, analyze, and evaluate a wide variety of research approaches and methodologies
- Analyze and evaluate the theories and applications underlying a variety of data collection and techniques used in education and other disciplines
- Choose appropriate analyses for questions which have been proposed
- Communicate in an efficient manner with educators and other professionals in the development and application of research and psychometric materials
- Develop, deliver, and evaluate programs and strategies and follow through with written reports
