Educational Psychology is a degree program area in the Department of Foundations and Special Services. Masters degrees offered are M.Ed or M.A. (thesis required) in Learning and Development. The Ph.D. program is designed to develop those competencies and skills necessary to make contributions to theory and research that have implications for the practice in schools and various alternative settings.

Although the primary goal of the program is to develop educational psychologist who will teach and engage in research in a university setting, it also emphasizes the development of professionals who will be able to respond appropriately to unique educational problems of a complex, diverse, and dynamic society.

Recent demographic trends and futurists' expectations indicate that Educational Psychology may be responsive, for example, to the needs of lifelong learning of our aging population, women in the work force and expansion of their opportunities, increasing demands for child care, wider usage of computers and attendant educational practice, extension of medical wellness services and related education for both the medical profession and general population. In addition, with a greater focus on excellence in the schools comes new educational demands and expectations. Moreover, in the workplace there are changing conceptions of management styles, widening roles for employers in providing educational services for employees, and intensified concerns for increased productivity.
