Program description
The reading endorsement is a “stamp of approval” to teach reading, grades PreK-12, in Ohio. The Endorsement is applied to an existing teaching certificate/license and is granted by the Ohio Department of Education.
The program focuses on both students who progress typically and those who struggle with learning to read. The program
meets all International Reading Association Standards for Classroom Professionals and Specialized Reading Professionals.
Admission/Prerequisite Requirements:
State of Ohio Endorsement in Reading is attained as part of the core requirements of the program. For this reason, students who enter the program must hold a valid teaching certificate or license.
Courses required:
Four courses, three of which must be taken sequentially, completion of the phonics requirement, and an acceptable score on the "Introduction to the Teaching of Reading" subtest of the Praxis II exam are required for Ohio Endorsement of Standard Certficate for Reading. (The test can be taken after coursework has been completed and is not a prerequisite for admission to the program. ) NOTE: Courses with
