ECIS Practicum Policies
All students pursuing the ECI license must complete 300 clock hours (6 credits) of supervised practicum with children three to eight years of age. Students may choose one of two options outlined below:
Option 1:
Register for two semesters of advanced practicum (3 credits per semester). Students will be placed in a preschool setting serving young children with special needs during one semester and setting serving children five to eight the other semester. When placements are available, students may register during summer. Check with Dr. Sharon Brady for availability prior to registering.
Option 2:
Register for three semester of advanced practicum (2 credits per semester). Students must apply for option two by following the directions specified under the ECI program's Part Time Practicum Policy. Check with Dr. Sharon Brady for availability prior to registering.
praxis
As a part of the application for licensure, you must successfully complete the Praxis II exam. The following sections are required for the Early Childhood Intervention Specialist License (ECIS) - Knowledge-Based Core Principles (20351). You must receive a passing score of 151.
Students must code their Praxis scores to be sent to the following recipient codes: R7945 (Ohio Department of Education) and R1367 (Kent State University).
Registration bulletins and study guides called Tests at a Glance are available outside of White Hall 306. Important dates for the taking the Praxis are also posted outside 306 (i.e., the Office of Student Services). Plan to take the Praxis at least one semester prior to graduation to avoid deadline difficulties.
An application for the ECIS license can be completed online or picked up the Office of Student Service (306 White Hall) Mon.- Fri. from 7:30-5:00
